More about Tony Collage:
It all started when Tony Collage was about 14 years old. He was at a family party and saw his cousin Djing. He was so intrigued that day, that whenever his cousin would record mixtapes, Tony would tag along and watch his cousin during the sessions in his garage. This carried on for a couple of months. While attending the mix sessions, all Tony wanted to do was study the movements and procedures of cousin’s actions while Djing. Once and a while, his cousin would even take him along on gigs. Tony would then study the art of working the crowd.

After some time went by, Tony Collage’s father saw the interest that sparked in his son. So for motivation, he promised his son he would buy him two Techniques turntables as well as a Gemini (Old School Baby!) mixer if he would get straight A’s on his next report card. For that following Quarter all Tony did was study, study, study. When that report card came it read, straight A’s! From there on out, all Tony did save and spend his money on records (no Serato back then) and would practice and listen to other jocks. While listening to other jocks mix, he would depict what he would like to abstract from then and incorporate into his own style. He followed Dj’s such as Richard Vission, E-Man, Rectangle and Bad Boy Bill.

Soon Tony would land his first gig, and the rest is history. Throughout his high school days at Don Bosco Tech, Tony mixed at his and other high school dances as well as formal’s. He landed a variety of parties that ranged from back yard flyer parties to weddings. While playing at these gigs as well as practicing, he had only two thoughts in mind, one was, ways of improvement, and two was, the chance some day to make it to Power 106. Power 106 is a Los Angeles Radio station that is very well known for their mixers. If one were to make it to Power, it can be argued that to be apart of the Power mixer staff is equivalent to making it to the “Big Leagues.”

Soon thereafter, when Tony Collage was around 20 as he started to work at a local night- club known as Ibiza, located in the city of Whittier. Because of his age, Tony wasn’t allowed to Dj at the actual club, so he mixed at private events for the establishment on a weekly basis. As soon as he turned 21, the management at the nightclub asked him to be apart of the line-up for club, and he happily accepted knowing that this might bring him one step closer to achieving his goal of being on Power. During his first couple of years at the club, he learned from veteran nightclub Dj’s, taking whatever he can in order to better him as a Dj. He learned certain aspects such as timing with an MC, crowd control, developing an ear for music, pleasing an audience and much more.

A year or two went by while Tony was a Djing at various clubs as well as a resident at Ibiza when a notable radio personality came by one night. Tony was mixing a Hip-Hop set one night and during his set the crowd was being very responsive. This response from the crowd got the attention of the notable radio personality that was there at the time. So the personality got on the mic and stood behind Tony while he was mixing for about 15 minutes. Then, the next record Tony went to retrieve for his next song, Big Boy leaned over and said to Tony, “You are killing it right now!” Tony couldn’t believe what he had just heard, so he did the only thing he could do were say, “Thanks” and keep on rocking the house!

It wasn’t until the year of 2004, during Christmas time, when Tony received a call from the Power 106 Music Director/Assistant Programming Director, DJ E-Man. E-Man wanted a demo and the very next day, Tony turned one in. A couple of weeks went by and Tony saw a Power Mixer at an event. While meeting up with the power mixer, he had told Tony that his demo was heard by the powers to be at the station and it was liked. Tony’s then received a call from E-Man once again to mix on a holiday weekend. Soon, Tony was doing guest spots every now and then for the station up until July of 2005. He was asked to tryout for a Power mixer spot! Tony finally felt like all the hard work and preparation was paying off. From July till the Christmas Holidays, Tony was working on the weekend overnight shifts for the station. Once the annual “Mixmas” mix arrived, Tony then landed 12 spots over a two-week period for the holiday mix! Those two weeks were the most fun Tony has ever had.

Currently, Tony is a Power mixer for KPWR Power 106 Los Angeles and can be heard on the weekends for the Cali Mix Weekends. He has rocked many many nightclubs and concerts that featured artists such as Ludacris, Ashanti, Xzibit, Dj Quik, Lil Jon, Snoop Dog, Ja Rule, Frankie J, Baby Bash, Lisa Lisa, Berlin, Ice Cube and many more. He enjoys playing for crowds that appreciate music and who just want to have a good time.

Tony has also just got married last September 16th 2006, as well as finishing up his Civil Engineering degree from Cal Poly Pomona. In addition to Djing, his marriage, as well as school, Tony works for a Contracting Company located in Anaheim named Sully-Miller Contracting. There he is currently a concrete project engineer for the company, gaining experience for when he graduates from Cal Poly. Now, Tony only hopes to keep on mixing for the station, improve his skills as a Power mixer, finish his degree, start a family and land weekly gigs so that he can share his joy of music with others. You can catch Tony at various clubs and events currently though the L.A. area as well on the airwaves.
